Francisco Goya y Lucientes
La Conde Palatino
Aquatint with etching, 1799 / restrike.
An aquatint in Goy'a Los Caprichos series (no. 33). The full caption reads: In all of their sciences they are charlatans who know everything without having learned anything; and yet they have a remedy for every ill. One should not believe in what they say, and the intelligent person does not trust them. An educated person is moderate in his promises and keeps them – the Count Palantine does not keep any promises at all." First published in 1799, the present impression is a restrike of high quality by the French publisher Jean de Bonnot (with the publisher's statement on the verso guaranteeing that the restrikes are from Goya's plate, not reproductions). Size: (plate) 5 7/8 x 9 in / 15 x 22.9 cm (paper) 12 1/4 x 18 in / 31 x 45.7 cm Very fine. Very fine.

Del 70; Harris 6.
