By the Author.
194pp: Copland's "Our New Music" of 1941 was an important summation of the composer's views on his craft and his comments on modern music in Europe and the US; in this new, revised edition of 1968, Copland could go back and reexamine his text of 20+ years earlier and update the book. The book is in three parts: a survey of contemporary Euroepan composers (effectively to the period before WWII to 1939); a survey of composers in Amrica with chapters on Charles Ives, Roy Harris, Roger Sessions and Walter Piston, on Virgil Thomson and Marc Blitzstein, and on "composers from Brooklyn (autobiographical sketch)"; and a new section on the Present Day (the composers of the 50s, the music of chance and electronic media in music). A very fine copy SIGNED BY COPLAND in a personal inscription on the ffep (dated 1974) and a previous owner's bookplate (not the person to whom the book was signed). Dustajcket is fine, not priceclipped. Fine.
Fine.
